Careers In Special Events

 

 

The wedding and special events industry is a billion dollar enterprise. It is an ever growing field with room for everyone who truly desires a career. Working for an event planner is definitely exciting, but also a lot of work. If you are energetic, positive, fun, detail oriented, creative, responsible, persevering, love a challenge, and like long hours, this could be the perfect career for you.

 

Here at Golden Gatherings we are always looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team. If you are interesting in working with our company, the following are ways to get your opportunity.

 

Internships

    • Definition: any official or formal program to provide practical experience for beginners in an occupation or profession. An intern is one who works in a temporary position emphasizing on-the-job training rather than merely employment.
    • Eligibility: To be considered for a Golden Gatherings internship, the applicant must (1) be enrolled in a degree program leading to an undergraduate or graduate degree in a special events related field; (2) degree program requires an approved internship; and (3) have completed the required prerequisite coursework prior to the internship.
    • Criteria: Internships are a minimum of one semester. Required hours may vary depending on degree requirements.  Internships are non-paid.

     

    Apprenticeships

      • Definition: a system of training a new generation of skilled crafts practitioners. Most training is done on the job while working for an employer who helps the apprentice learn the trade.
      • Eligibility: To be considered for a Golden Gatherings apprenticeship, the applicant must (1) be a novice member of the Association of Bridal Consultants; (2) Be enrolled in or have completed the Professional Development Program of the Association of Bridal Consultants; and (3) participate with the Northwest Local Networking Group of the Association of Bridal Consultants.
      • Criteria: This apprenticeship is a non-paid position that includes 40-60 hours of office and sales training, and 2-4 on site events.

       

      Event Specialists

        • Definition: event specialists are paid staff performing  various duties depending on the category. Categories range from Level 1-Level 3 event specialists. Salary varies depending upon assigned category.
        • Eligibility: To be considered for an event specialist position, the applicant must (1) have completed a Golden Gatherings internship and/or apprenticeship; (2) be a member of the Association of Bridal Consultants; and (3) participate with the Northwest Local Networking Group of the Association of Bridal Consultants.

        On Site Event Staff

          • On occasion Golden Gatherings requires additional on-site staff for event set-up and break-down only. These are not training or professional positions.  An hourly wage is offered to event staff.
